FILMMAKER
Screeners for the RACC grant application

For my work sample, I've chosen an older film because my feature film most closely represents this style. Although the production values will be much higher and my story and directing skills have grown considerably, the feature will also be a gritty drama about a woman struggling to achieve her goals.

The film has now screened around the world from the Philippines to Australia to Sweden, winning multiple awards at festivals.

Sista in the Brotherhood
The story follows apprentice carpenter who struggles to prove herself on her first day at a new job site. An outlier in a white, male-dominated workforce, she’s forced to navigate the crew’s reactions to her. When tensions arise, she receives inspiration from a surprising source to help her decide to either make a stand or risk never being recognized as the skilled worker she has become.

Directed and co-written by Dawn Jones Redstone, partially based on her experiences as a carpenter. Learn more and see full credits here.

Made possible by a grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council, a Kickstarter campaign and support from Pro Photo Supply.
